MTR's 7th Season is a season filled with opportunities for everyone starting with an all-female benefit concert weekend entitled “All Girl Band” in the Fall and then finishing up with the award-winning musical comedy “The Drowsy Chaperone” in the Spring.
At the Village Gate Theatre November 3rd - 6th, 2011
Arranged by Matthew McFarland
Directed by Matthew McFarland Music Directed by Michael Alfera
About the Show: The amount of musical theatre talent amongst the women here at USC is astounding, and unfortunately, not showcased enough. With that in mind, we, the artistic board of Musical Theatre Repertory, couldn't think of a better way kick-off our 7th season here at USC than to produce a benefit concert weekend highlighting the beautiful and diverse musical talents of the female voices of the University Park Campus. Directed by Matthew McFarland, this cabaret-style weekend of performances will donate to Broadway Cares: Equity Fights AIDS while simultaneously giving the students at USC what they've missing: an all-female-voiced musical group, or, an ALL GIRL BAND!!!
The Drowsy Chaperone
At the Massman Theatre January 2012
Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert & Greg Morrison Book by Bob Martin & Don McKellar
Directed by D.J. Blickenstaff Music Directed by Madeline Myers
About the Show: A rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. If you've ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, "Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good," this is the show for you!
It all begins when a die-hard musical-theater fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.
